I have created an ibook in ibook author and it appears in ibook on my Mac. How do I get it on my iPad. It is too big to email.
Use dropbox or some similar file sharing service.
You can install MAMPon you mac (free web server, no configuration needed).
Put ePub file in Applications/MAMP/htdocs and you can download locally (quicker than Dropbox, Mega, etc...)
On your iPad's nevigator type:
http://mac_local-lan_IP:8888/NameOfYourBook.epub
You can see local IP on: System Preferences/Lan or System Preferences/Sharing
iPad and Mac must be in the same lan/wifi network.

If you use this system, you need to use NameOfYourBook.ibooks, as iBA does not produce .epub files.
My mistake, but you can use this method for .ePub, .ibooks and .pdf archives.
